Literacy Menu (May 13-17) A Boy Called Slow

Literacy Objectives:

  • Identify genre:Narrative Nonfiction

  • Develop fluency (Expression) through Daily “5” (listen to reading, read to self/IDR, & read to someone)

  • Deepen understanding of vocabulary related to the main selection/A Boy Called Slow

  • Word Study: Commonly Misspelled Words

  • Comprehension Skill: Main Idea & Key Details

  • Comprehension Strategy: Determining Importance/Summarize

  • Vocabulary Skill: synonyms, antonyms, and idioms

  • Writing: Skill: Narrative

  • Grammar: Prepostions

  • Be enthusiastic about writing and learning to write

  • Be enthusiastic about reading ACTIVELY

 

Required Activities…Daily “5” Zones

  • Work on Words: Enter vocabulary words in your Reading Response Log.  Dollar Words, Stop Smell Spelling, Cursive & Test Friday (5-17-19)

 

  • Work on Writing: Narrative Writing

 

  • Read to Someone: South Dakota State History

 

  • Read to Self: IDR /South Dakota History

                             

  • Listen to Reading:  Jack's Run

 

Optional Activities

  • Read IPICK Selection 

  • Read the newspaper highlight vocabulary words, spelling words, and large numbers

  • Practice, Practice, and Practice (Reading, Writing, Spelling, or Vocabulary)
